Guild

The Church of Scotland guild is a movement within the Church of Scotland which invites and encourages both women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enables them to express their faith in worship prayer and action.

Women and men of all walks of life meet together under our common aim. The aim has been underlined in our motto which is taken from acts 27 verses 23 "whose we are and whom we serve.

Various congregational groups meet together in councils, each of which sends a representative to serve at national level in one of the six committees.

Each committee has it's own remit and once a year they meet together in joint conference. Separate day conferences are also held for council conveners for council project co-ordinators and for council educational representatives, such events help those at local level to feel part of a larger national movement. Every guild branch gets two tickets for annual assembly held in various parts of Scotland.

All six of the current projects supported by guild members relate to the theme for the fundraising strategy which is dare to care. Money raised for the 1997 project tied into the strategy of riches and poverty totalled more than £560,000.

December 2002 saw guild donations top 1 million. Members across the country had contributed to this amazing total. So the guild is not just a handful of people gathering in a small church once a month.
